Nu Vegan Cafe

Now in Richmond VA the NuVegan Cafe made its debut on June, 30 2018. This is actually the third location as their are two more located in College Park, Maryland as well as their first location in Washington DC. As a chain of southern style soul food restaurants this will be the very first fully vegan fast-casual restaurant in Richmond, VA. Some of the items on the menu include southern comfort favorites like cheesy grits, fried “not” chicken, collard greens and more. The menu also caters to those who may practice raw food nutrition.

NuVegan Cafe company president Vernon Woodland and local Richmond franchise owner Jason Jackson collaborated to open this newest location. Both business owners went through a similar personal transition to plant based nutrition. Starting out with a meatless monday regiment and moving on to vegetarian. They eventually realized and experienced that plants offered all of the nutrients needed to live a healthy life and they made the full commitment to veganism. Boasting that this restaurant is not just for vegans but is for everyone with a love of American southern style foods. NuVegan Cafe strives to draw in people who are not vegan with its vegan versions of creative replacements for meat and cheese-based dishes. Their menu also offers a wide range of creative fun beverages like vegan milkshakes and made to order fresh juices and smoothies.

An establishment like this has been a long time coming for Richmond as the city has a very active community of vegetarians and vegans. The city is also host to the annual Richmond VegFest, a well attended festival which has been active for 16 years. Considering the theme and style of food at NuVegan this restaurant will go on to be a fitting addition to the Richmond culinary landscape. Visit their website to see their full dining offering.
