Earth Burger is on the Rise!

Founded by Mike Behrend, aka Chef Big Mike, a chef with over 20 years of restaurant industry experience, having opened several traditional and concept style restaurants and diners in the San Antonio, TX area. Behrend decided to become a vegetarian for environmental and personal health reasons. He opened Green, a vegetarian restaurant with his family which expanded into three locations.

Behrend's commitment to plant based food choices became more important after the birth of his children. Realizing that many families still eat out at fast food places he wanted to establish a restaurant that offered a healthier alternative. This launched his venture into the fast food industry, Earth Burger.

With Earth Burger Behrend intended to offer all of the conventions of traditional fast food, but with an offering of plant based options. As fast food is so accessible to the public Behrend decided to use Kickstarter to fund this endeavor because he wanted an investment from the community. Establishing Earth Burger helped him in his secondary mission, to increase the awareness and accessibility of plant based food. With his culinary expertise Behrend has crafted a burger product that can challenge other meat based burgers in a taste test. check out the Earth Burger taste test in the video below

That community level investment really paid off as Behrend surpassed his original Kickstarter funding goal of $40,000 by raising $43,052. Behrend went on to open the first Earth Burger location in San Antonio, TX in 2014. With this success and a rise in popularity Earth Burger has opened three more locations in Texas.

According to the restaurant’s website, the tasty burger includes, a beefy plant-based patty on a whole wheat bun with their secret sauce, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Earth Burger also dishes out a chick-n protein wrap: a whole wheat wrap filled with kale salad, grilled chick-n, olives, and hummus. Other entrĂ©es include a fish-less sandwich, a chopped BBQ sandwich, as well as gluten-free offerings. All are 100% vegan and contain no hydrogenated oils or artificial colors.

As Earth Burger grows their business it is now due to become the latest burger-centric restaurant at the famed Mall of America. The location they have secured is level three, south, it is expected to open sometime in early 2018. This plant based burger stand is well on its way to being a new fast food standard.
