NBA All-Star goes Vegan!

Point guard for the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers, Damian Lillard has made quite the name for himself on the court, he was named NBA All-Star twice – and now Lillard is making a name for himself off the court too. The professional basketball star has been eating a vegan diet in the hopes of improving his game. Recently, Lillard was on The Late Late Show with James Cordon where he revealed he’s been eating plant-based for a whole week. Hey, you gotta start somewhere!

Lillard has been showing off his meat-free eats on Instagram and asking for recommendations on Twitter. It’s wonderful to see an athlete with so much influence eating plant-based and raising awareness that cutting out meat and dairy can be good for performance.

Seems like Lillard has figured out that exercise and fitness aren’t the only key part of a successful athletic journey. Good nutrition is just as important as your workouts, and can really help you reach your goals sooner, while also supporting your body long-term. This has to be some kind of a response to Lillard battling with constant aches and pains over the course of last season. The point guard has been rock solid for the Trail Blazers in his five seasons with the team, playing in all 82 regular season games in his first three seasons and 75 regular season games each of the last two.

In a recent video interview with the O, Lillard said he made the decision because he wanted “to play lighter” on his feet in order to put less stress on his body. He also snuck in a Portland, OR shout-out to what is “probably” his “favorite restaurant,” Harlow, the beloved Hawthorne spot sister-restaurant to Prasad.

Lillard joins a growing number of professional athletes who know that plant-based diets improve performance.
