The everlasting controversy of the word "milk"

Non-dairy milk subsitute bevereges have officially gone mainstream. Almond milk, rice milk, cashew milk and the one that started it all, soy milk. Though now things have gotten serious as the dairy industry is trying hard to lay sole claim to the term "milk." Typically they claim concerns about consumers becoming confused about what is and is not milk.
Of course it is deeper than that, it is a matter marketing and profit. government agencies like the USDA and FDA are going to court over this. Even more peculiar is the Merriam-Webster dictionary milk definition which allows for a "food product produced from seeds or fruit that resembles and is used similarly to cow's milk." At this point it may not be a point of confusion anymore. Not only health conscious consumers know the difference, as stated before plant based milks are a mainstream item. It will definitely be interesting to see how this issue develops.
