The Humble Sprouts

Sprouts are a highly nutritious food that can be added to salads, smoothies, and sandwiches. The only problem with them is that more people are not eating them, or realize that they are easy to prepare at home. While already grown sprouts are available at supermarkets and natural food stores, the better choice is home grown. Most people assume that this might be difficult because they associate sprouting with outdoor gardening. In truth all anyone needs to sprout is seeds, a glass jar and access to running water.

Simply take a cleanglass jar and fill it with 1 to 3 cups of the dry bean or seed of choice and fill the rest of the way with water. Allow the seeds or beans to soak for 6-12 hours or overnight then pour off the soaking water. Set the jar in a spot with access to sunlight and rinse the seeds/beans with water two times a day for the next 4-5 days or until the seeds/beans have grown into developed leafy sprouts. That's it! If this is difficult to believe see the process in action in the videos provided.

Some items such as, mung beans, require a different approach. In this case the use of deep buckets and darkness are better for the growth of the beans. See video below.

Does this sound interesting? What is even better the seeds and beans are pretty cheap. Just always make sure that they are organic and Non-GMO. Some seeds and beans best for sprouting are sunflower seeds, mung beans, alfalfa, and fenugreek just for starters.
